Wolf Parade: At Mount Zoomer
Label: Sub Pop
Since the release of Apologies to the Queen Mary in 2005, Wolf Parade fans have had plenty of albums from Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug’s other projects to keep us occupied (Sunset Rubdown, Handsome Furs, Frog Eyes, Swan Lake). However, At Mount Zoomer is the album we’ve all been waiting for, and it does not disappoint. Restless guitars, glorious synthesizers, and powerful rhythms come together behind the two singers’ unmistakable voices singing evocative lyrics about cities, voids, and alienation. From the intoxicating waltz “Soldier’s Grin” and the wonderfully catchy “Language City” to the truly epic 11-minute closer “Kissing the Beehive,” At Mount Zoomer proves that whenever Boeckner and Krug work together, magic happens.
